My Post-Childhood City
The Post-Childhood City series depict the Post-Soviet city Jelgava, Latvia where future and past, ideology and memory clash. The photographic study is based on a personal experience, reflecting on my childhood and early 20’s memories of my home town city, Jelgava.
The familiar neighbourhood cityscape explores the Soviet Era architectural legacy of the Eastern blocks, giving the personal take on the lure of the brutalist landscape. The series capture the presence of this alternative and banal autobiography of my personal post-childhood world that I recognise but cannot return to.
The photographs depict a typical post-soviet city which consist of so called mass sleeping areas – suburban apartment blocks where people return to in the evening after work.
